Top 10 Safest Countries In The World And The Most Dangerous(Ranked)

2019 started with a bang, our news feed popped up an article on the “safest countries in the world”.

GF magazine(Global Financial for those that don’t know) released their list of the safest and most dangerous countries in the world.

We were quite surprised by the list having spent a month travelling in the Philippines and driving all around El Salvador we didn’t know what to make of it.

But then we remembered they were just numbers and while a lot of these countries have their problems, this shouldn’t stop you from visiting!

We had some of the best times of our lives in the most dangerous and in the safest countries in the world.

So what are the top 10 safest countries in the world and the most dangerous?

Top 10 safest countries in the world

Well before we get into it let’s break down just what ranks these countries as ‘safe’ and ‘dangerous’.

GN magazine breaks it down as follows:

the safety score for countries equally weighs each of the three factors: war and peace, personal security, and natural disaster risk. The safety score aggregates the indices from these three risks, thus presenting a comprehensive view of safety for each country.

And for dangerous countries:

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the countries that typically rank the lowest usually have a combination of dire threats from all three threats to safety. These countries are often economically developing and are located in areas with a high risk of natural disaster. Countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, and Bangladesh suffer from earthquakes frequently. Poor economic development in these countries is also associated with less personal safety and security.

Basically, a lot of data goes into these reports, and you can take the results as a grain of salt. Still, it is always interesting to see what ranked where.

So let’s get into it:

How did each country get to where it is on the list?

Well, Iceland came top due to its tiny crime rate. It also has under 400,000 residents, and although the island contains active volcanoes, there is a low risk to life.

The Phillippines(which we loved!) on the other hand came out as the most dangerous.

European countries scored very well and managed to get seven countries out of the top ten! The UK was not so lucky placing 38th!
