About Us

Hi, we’re Steve and Sabina, the couple behind Sunset Travellers. Steve is from Ireland, Sabina is from Poland, and we have been travelling, working abroad and writing about it on this blog since 2015.

Steve and Sabina on their honeymoon in the Cook Islands

Our story

In 2013 we left Ireland and moved to Australia on working holiday visas. We landed in Perth, did our farm work, then drove from Perth to Melbourne across the Nullarbor in a $900 car that everyone told us would never make it. We lived in Melbourne, explored the East Coast and once drove a campervan relocation from Sydney to Darwin in six days (not recommended).

Next came Canada, where we lived in Vancouver on our second working holiday, road-tripped through the Canadian Rockies and chased the northern lights in Yellowknife. We wrote up what those years taught us in 10 life lessons from two working holiday visas.

In between we have explored Central America, Mexico, Cuba, the Philippines, Bali, New Zealand, Greece, the Canary Islands, the Azores and much of Europe. Sabina grew up in Mazury, Poland’s lake district, and Steve’s Ireland pops up all over the blog. Our honeymoon in the Cook Islands turned into an unexpected two months when the pandemic closed the borders, and you can read how we ended up stranded in paradise.

Today we live in Portugal: first in Cascais and now in the Algarve. Our sister site, Travel Portugal Now, is where we share our Portugal travel guides.

How we work

We write about places we have been and things we have done ourselves. When something changes, we update the post: in 2026 we went back through the whole blog to refresh prices, rules and links. Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. We only recommend things we would use ourselves.

Say hello. For questions, collaborations or just to say hi, email us at [email protected] or use our contact page.
